Senior Animation Programmer

YOUR ROLE

As a Senior Animation Programmer, you will be integral to our development team, focusing on the design and implementation of scalable and high-performance animation systems that will be part of our proprietary engine based on Entity Component System (ECS) and Data-Oriented Design (DOD) principles.


Beyond your technical expertise, your role includes shaping our vision and strategy, and advocating for innovative approaches and technologies. Your role isn't just about creating functionalities but also about fostering a deep understanding across the team, enabling them to leverage these tools effectively in their roles.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design and implement scalable, high-performance animation systems that meet the project's needs, including technologies, pipeline, and tools.

  • Adopt a breadth-first development approach, ensuring our animation systems are designed for scalability and implemented iteratively.

  • Collaborate closely with animators and content team members, aligning the tools and functionalities with their needs. Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation, and regularly communicate about the capabilities and limitations of our animation systems and tools.

  • Stay abreast of new and emerging technologies in animation, incorporating these advancements into our systems where beneficial.

  • Ensure the code you develop is platform independent, maintaining compatibility across our targeted platforms.

YOUR PROFILE
  • Strong understanding of animation principles for game development, demonstrating your grasp of the art and science of motion in our projects.

  • Strong comprehension of the intersection between animation and physics, with experience in creating realistic, physics-based animations for a more immersive experience.

  • Excellent knowledge of mathematics, underscoring your technical knowledge and comprehension of the fundamental principles that drive animation programming.

  • Proficiency in C/C++, with a proven track record of developing efficient and complex solutions.

  • Good communication skills in both verbal and written English, enabling clear and effective communication across all levels of the organization.

  • Highly motivated to engage with new and emerging technologies, demonstrating a willingness to explore and apply unconventional methods.

NICE-TO-HAVE SKILLS
  • Experience in developing large-scale, open-world games or other real-time interactive simulations, demonstrating your ability to handle ambitious and complex projects.

  • Practical exposure to or knowledge of machine learning-driven animation techniques, showing your familiarity with cutting-edge animation technology.

  • Experience with developing animation systems for an online multiplayer environment, addressing issues such as synchronization, latency, and scalability.

LOCATION
Hybrid (within the Netherlands), or fully remote across Europe.

PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions is an independent development studio based in Amsterdam, focused on creating massive sandbox worlds. MELBA Team is PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions’ applied research division. Project Melba is a new simulation engine being built from the ground up, utilizing data-driven design, multi-core processing and machine learning at its foundation in order to power virtual worlds on a scale beyond the capabilities of current technology.

Going Dutch
We go by the Dutch law and start with a 12-month contract with the intent to offer a permanent contract afterwards.

13th month salary
Enjoy a 13th month of salary at the end of the year for a little extra holiday money. If you haven’t been with us a full year, you’ll still get a pro-rata bonus based on how long you’ve been employed.

You are free to work and hang out with us every day in our Amsterdam Studio. If you prefer to work from home, you can take advantage of three work-from-home days a week.

Vacation
You will have 25 days off and 3 extra studio days off throughout the year. You can also celebrate your birthday with an extra day off!
