Core Engine Development Lead

YOUR ROLE

As a Core Engine Development Lead you will become an essential member of our forward-thinking technology team. You’ll spearhead the development of our proprietary engine based on Entity Component System (ECS) and Data-Oriented Design (DOD) principles. Furthermore, you’ll oversee the integration of the Machine Learning technologies, developed by our internal Research team, into our core engine.

Working closely with our Technical Director, you’ll drive the development of our Core Engine and lead our team of committed engineers.

Beyond your technical expertise, your role includes refining and enhancing the processes and workflows associated with our core engine. By fostering a culture of continuous improvement, you’ll ensure our technology to stays at the forefront of a rapidly evolving field.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead, guide, and mentor our team of engineers, fostering an environment conducive to learning and collective growth.
  • Collaborate closely with the Technical Director and your team to design robust software solutions, proactively identifying potential problems, evaluating the best courses of action, and implementing custom solutions as needed.
  • Strive for software scalability, ensuring our systems are built to handle growing requirements without sacrificing performance or efficiency.
  • Implement new systems that contribute to our ambitious project: a highly data-driven, simulation-based, open-world sandbox project.
  • Use and augment the system libraries for our proprietary ECS & DOD based engine, enhancing their functionality and ease-of-use for the wider team.
  • Oversee and enhance the processes and workflows associated with our core engine, driving continuous improvement efforts to ensure peak performance.
YOUR PROFILE
  • Proven professional experience leading a technology team, demonstrating your ability to guide, mentor, and inspire your team members.

  • Extensive experience working with proprietary engines, showcasing your deep understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities they present.

  • Strong grasp of scalable software design and architectures, and a commitment to ensuring scalability in all aspects of system design and development.

  • A keen interest in new and emerging technologies, especially in the field of ECS and DOD principles and machine learning technologies.

  • Good communication skills in both verbal and written English, enabling clear and effective communication across all levels of the organization.

  • Previous experience with console development, underscoring your understanding of the technical requirements and challenges associated with various gaming platforms.

  • A passion for pushing the boundaries of what's possible in the field of technology, inspiring your team and driving your projects towards innovation and excellence.

  • Advanced proficiency in C/C++.

NICE-TO-HAVE SKILLS
  • Prior experience with Machine Learning, showcasing your ability to apply and integrate these advanced technologies in practical use cases.

  • Proficiency in additional programming or scripting languages, particularly Python, demonstrating your versatility and adaptability in the technical landscape.

  • Experience with General Purpose computing on Graphics Processing Units (GPGPU).

LOCATION

Hybrid (within The Netherlands), or fully remote within Europe.

MELBA Team is PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions’ applied research division. Project Melba is a new simulation engine being built from the ground up, utilizing data-driven design, multi-core processing and machine learning at its foundation in order to power virtual worlds on a scale beyond the capabilities of current technology.

Going Dutch
We go by the Dutch law and start with a 12-month contract with the intent to offer a permanent contract afterwards. 

Relocation support

13th month salary
Enjoy a 13th month of salary at the end of the year for a little extra holiday money. If you haven’t been with us a full year, you’ll still get a pro-rata bonus based on how long you’ve been employed.

You are free to work and hang out with us every day in our Amsterdam Studio. If you prefer to work from home, you can take advantage of three work-from-home days a week.

No need to worry about drinks, snacks, and lunch while in the studio.

Vacation
You will have 25 days off and 3 extra studio days off throughout the year. You can also celebrate your birthday with an extra day off!
