Senior Audio Programmer

YOUR ROLE

As our Senior Audio Programmer, you'll play a crucial role within our forward-thinking technology team. Your responsibility will be to develop and enhance audio systems using a third-party sound library, integrating it seamlessly into our proprietary engine based on Entity Component System (ECS) and Data-Oriented Design (DOD) principles.

Working closely with our Research Scientists and Audio Lead, you'll spearhead the creation of simulation-driven sound solutions for our expansive sandbox environments. This work will involve leveraging Machine Learning technologies developed by our internal Research team, pushing the envelope of what's possible in immersive and dynamic sound design in gaming.

Beyond your technical expertise, your role includes shaping our audio programming vision and strategy, and advocating for innovative approaches and technologies. Your work will ensure that our audio systems meets the demands of our ambitious projects and propelling our projects to new auditory heights.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design and implement runtime audio systems and features, enhancing the player's auditory experience in our dynamic, open-world sandbox environment.

  • Manage and enhance the audio tools pipeline, leveraging a third-party audio library to meet our project's unique audio requirements.

  • Adopt a breadth-first development approach, ensuring our audio systems are designed for scalability and implemented iteratively.

  • Integrate and augment the third-party audio library into our proprietary ECS-based engine, ensuring the audio components perform optimally within our technological framework.

  • Create and maintain clear and comprehensive documentation and communicate the technical constraints, best practices, and potential of our audio systems and tools to the engineering and content development team members

YOUR PROFILE
  • Significant professional programming experience, with a focus on audio for virtual environments or game development.

  • Strong comprehension of audio physics, reinforcing your technical knowledge and understanding of the foundations of audio programming.

  • Proficiency in C/C++, with a proven track record of developing efficient and complex solutions.

  • Demonstrated experience integrating and adapting third-party technologies, showcasing your versatility and resourcefulness.

  • Good communication skills in both verbal and written English, enabling clear and effective communication across all levels of the organization.

  • Highly motivated to engage with new and emerging technologies, demonstrating a willingness to explore and apply unconventional methods.

NICE-TO-HAVE SKILLS

  • Experience developing for multiple platforms, showcasing your adaptability and ability to navigate various technical requirements and challenges.

  • Interest in Machine Learning technologies applied to audio, showing your commitment to staying on the cutting edge of technology in your field.

  • In-depth understanding of Audio Digital Signal Processing (DSP).

Hybrid (within The Netherlands), or fully remote within Europe.

MELBA Team is PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions’ applied research division. Project Melba is a new simulation engine being built from the ground up, utilizing data-driven design, multi-core processing and machine learning at its foundation in order to power virtual worlds on a scale beyond the capabilities of current technology.

Going Dutch
We go by the Dutch law and start with a 12-month contract with the intent to offer a permanent contract afterwards.

13th month salary

You are free to work and hang out with us every day in our Amsterdam Studio. If you prefer to work from home, you can take advantage of three work-from-home days a week.

Vacation
You will have 25 days off and 3 extra studio days off throughout the year. You can also celebrate your birthday with an extra day off!
