Principal Technical Artist

YOUR ROLE

As a Principal Technical Artist, your mission is to act as the critical link between art and technology within our organization, leveraging Melba, our proprietary technology platform. Your expertise is fundamental to enhancing the visual quality and performance of our projects. This involves developing innovative advanced rendering techniques, refining asset pipelines, and enhancing collaboration across art, tech, and research teams

In this pivotal role, you will significantly contribute to the evolution of our proprietary engine, Melba, which is built on the principles of Entity Component System (ECS) and Data-Oriented Design (DOD). Your insights and innovations will drive the engine's capabilities, ensuring it remains at the forefront of game development technology, facilitating the creation of visually stunning and highly performant game experiences.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Craft and optimize asset pipelines for both art and technical aspects, ensuring a seamless and efficient workflow from concept to in-game implementation.

  • Take charge of integrating and managing art tools and pipelines, providing solutions that meet the needs of the art team while aligning with technical requirements.

  • Work closely with the Research Team to integrate Machine Learning (ML) into our production processes where they can offer the most benefit. 

  • Lead prototyping efforts for new tools or features, demonstrating quick research capabilities and the ability to develop proof of concept projects.

  • Mentor existing technical artists team, fostering their professional growth and enhancing the team's overall skill set and expertise.

YOUR PROFILE
  • Strong capability in designing and managing asset pipelines, balancing the needs of art and technology to improve efficiency and quality.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to prototype and implement effective technical art solutions.

  • Eager to stay at the forefront of rendering technology and technical art trends.

NICE-TO-HAVE SKILLS
  • Basic to intermediate proficiency in C/C++, adding a valuable skill set for developing custom tools and enhancing engine functionality.

  • Deep knowledge of HLSL/GLSL.

  • Proficient Experience with Blender.

LOCATION
Hybrid (within The Netherlands), or fully remote within Europe.

PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions is an independent development studio based in Amsterdam, focused on creating massive sandbox worlds. Our multi-disciplinary team is using an array of new and emerging technologies to push the envelope of what is possible with open worlds in gaming. Our goal is to build deep, systemic playgrounds on a planetary scale, populated by thousands of players.

MELBA Team is PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions’ applied research division. Project Melba is a new simulation engine being built from the ground up, utilizing data-driven design, multi-core processing and machine learning at its foundation in order to power virtual worlds on a scale beyond the capabilities of current technology.

Going Dutch
We go by the Dutch law and start with a 12-month contract with the intent to offer a permanent contract afterwards.

13th month salary
Enjoy a 13th month of salary at the end of the year for a little extra holiday money. If you haven’t been with us a full year, you’ll still get a pro-rata bonus based on how long you’ve been employed.

You are free to work and hang out with us every day in our Amsterdam Studio. If you prefer to work from home, you can take advantage of three work-from-home days a week.

Vacation
You will have 25 days off and 3 extra studio days off throughout the year. You can also celebrate your birthday with an extra day off!
