Network Programmer

Permanent employee, Full-time · Amsterdam

For the Melba Team we are looking for a Network Programmer to incorporate cutting edge technology into a brand-new engine designed to power large-scale simulations. As part of the Melba Team, you will be joining a team of other developers and researchers approaching problems from new angles and experimenting with novel solutions.

You will work on the "Distributed Simulation" research project, in collaboration with researchers and other R&D Team members. The objective is to investigate new approaches rather than implement existing engineering solutions only.

Responsibilities include:

  • Investigate, design and implement high-speed low latency networking solutions.
  • Integrate 3rd party networking technologies in proprietary technology.
  • Assist to design and integrate networking at core-engine level.
  • Highly motivated to work with new and emerging technologies in a research driven environment.
  • Design and implement for scalability.
  • Adopt a data-oriented design approach.
  • Experience with decentralised networking solutions.
  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field (or equivalent experience).
  • Solid low-level understanding of network protocols.
  • Solid proficiency in C/C++, including: refactoring, optimisation, and testing.
  • Experience working with and programming for both Windows and Linux platforms.
  • Confident investigating / prototyping new technologies.
  • Experience integrating / adapting 3rd party technologies.
  • Ability to write clear and maintainable code.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills in verbal and written English.
  • Produce platform independent code.
  • Practical experience with P2P networking.
  • Experience developing large-scale / open-world / sandbox projects.
  • Experience with maintaining online services.
  • Proficiency in documentation and communication.
  • Working knowledge of Atlassian software development and collaboration tools.
  • Experience working in diverse, multinational teams.
  • Practical experience using a variety of modern technologies and tools.

Project Melba is a new simulation engine being built from the ground up, utilizing data-driven design, multi-core processing and machine learning at its foundation in order to power virtual worlds on a scale beyond the capabilities of current technology.

Going Dutch
We go by the Dutch law and start with a 12-month contract with the intent to offer a permanent contract afterwards. 

Relocation funds
If you are not living in the Netherlands yet, we will support, you and your close ones during the relocation process.

Our centrally located office is easy to get to from any part of the Netherlands, and we will reimburse you for train or bike commute.

Flexible Schedule
Once it is safe to do so, you are free to work and hang out with us every day in our Amsterdam Studio. If you prefer to work from home, you can take advantage of two work-from-home days a week.

No need to worry about drinks, snacks, and lunch, all of which we provide in our studio. Burger Fridays in our canteen come highly recommended but you will also find a lot of vegetarian options!

You will have 25 days off and 3 extra studio days off throughout the year. You can also celebrate your birthday with an extra day off!
